Biman Bangladesh Airlines or simply Biman is the country’s flag carrier airline. Biman carries international passenger to 16 different countries and also provide cargo services to its destinations as well as it provides air service into 42 countries of the world. Biman’s main hub is in Dhaka at Shahjalal International Airport while Biman operates flights from Chittagong and Sylhet at Shah Amanat International Airport and at Osmani International Airport.
The headquarters of Biman is located in Kurmitola, Dhaka which is called Balaka Bhaban. Biman’s business includes annual Hajj flights, transporting non-resident Bangladeshi workers and tourists; and other activities of its subsidiaries. Currently Biman is facing tough competition from domestic private airlines of Bangladeshi as well as from some international airlines. Biman was created in 1972. Until 23 July 2007 Biman was fully owned and managed by Bangladesh government. Since 2007 Biman has become a public limited company and from then it has reduced its number of staffs. Recently Biman has contracted with Boeing for ten new aircrafts.
Biman has already certified as a safe airlines to fly in Europe and the European Aviation Safety Agency has provided this certification. Biman also successfully passed the Operational Safety Audit and since then Biman is flying in Asia and Europe. Biman’s next plan is to fly the nation’s bi-coloured flag to greater heights for achieving greatest pride around the globe.
